The Eyes Have it for Lesley
Written by Keith Newman

The business of change is all in a days work for enterprising leadership trainer Lesley Hunter who is looking at her own business in depth and implementing revolutionary techniques that will help other businesses and individuals deal with change, behavioural issues and work related stress. Lesley, from Washington whose business Mynx Leadership Development already uses specialist training techniques such as Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) in her training and coaching programmes has seen excellent results and powerful positive outcomes for her clients who include local councils and the police. Now however, Lesley has been working with a new technique called Integral Eye Movement (IEM) which basically involves getting a person to hold an image in their mind while the eyes are moved in different directions. The result of this is that often the imagery loses its emotional impact and becomes far less powerful in its intensity and therefore helps clients to stay out of past negative experiences permanently. Lesley has identified that this technique can help in management leadership development by helping people to deal with anticipatory emotions that many leaders experience when introducing and managing change into their organisations.  Now, having been identified as one of only three IEM trainers in the UK, Lesley is looking forward to making a positive difference to regional businesses

“Most businesses experience great difficulties during periods of change,” said Lesley. “I’ve researched the behaviours that people exhibit in the workplace, the emotions that sit behind them, and calculated how IEM could be applied to support leadership development as a proactive technique to aid change.”

In short, Lesley has taken the key elements from a wide range of existing accepted approaches such as leadership behavioural diagnostics; NLP, coaching and emotional intelligence and added IEM to create a new blended programme called “Frontline Leadership”

Frontline Leadership is unique and starts with 3 days of workshop training where Lesley introduces and demonstrates a wide range of skills and techniques, including IEM. She then works with each individual to identify the most appropriate and relevant techniques for them to use to support change in the context of their organisation. A robust programme of coaching and mentoring supports the participants through the period of change enabling them to embed the techniques into their leadership behaviour and practice the learning back in the workplace.  Lesley will then use IEM as a supporting technique to help overcome any anticipatory problems, such as anxiety, lack of confidence or stress during the programme.

Angela Ross, of A Touch of Hope Counselling has recently completed one of Lesley’s courses and immediately identified huge benefits for other people in her line of work. “I would recommend this to anyone interested in personal and professional development.  The skills learned during this course are life changing.”

The next Frontline Leadership course will take place in September.  Ends
