The European chemical industry is the second largest in the world, accounting for about 30 percent of the global market share. REACH is a new European Community Regulation on chemicals and their safe use; it deals with the Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemical substances, and it came into force on June 1, 2007. REACH mandates major changes in documentation of the safe manufacture, use, import and disposal of chemicals for the European Union chemicals industry. Every industry that directly or indirectly uses chemicals currently faces the challenge of complying with this regulation to continue business operations in Europe.
