WAR FOR TALENT WORSENS: GET OUT OF RECRUITMENT CHAOS |

Bristol, 13th May 2008 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE WAR FOR TALENT WORSENS The labour market is tightening to its highest point in six years, with staff turnover expected to increase as more than eight in ten organisations (82 percent) anticipate trouble ahead in finding quality people to fill vacancies, according to recent findings from the Recruitment Confidence Index (RCI), produced by Cranfield School of Management. The areas of most difficulty have consistently been engineering and computing although Architectural Select’s own findings place Architectural staffing also in a difficult area. Organisations have been recruiting more and more, but fewer high quality people have been coming into the workforce, resulting in rising recruitment difficulties for employers.
Karl McClelland, director of Architectural Select, places part of the blame on employers. He says "All too often we, and our clients, are losing extremely valuable resources because of a ‘no-decision policy'. A lot of the time this is down to bottlenecks and internal processes involved within a company.” “Finding talent is extremely high on the Top 10 CEO Concerns (see chart) and ‘people’ is now the most pressing concern for CIOs. Businesses no longer have days and weeks to make a decision about potential employees. They will often lose valuable candidates within hours or even minutes to a competitor. We see it every week." “Many clients are finding themselves in ‘Recruitment Chaos’ and have lost vital control of the information. Many are receiving hundreds of CVs and speculative applications each quarter from a huge range of sources – most of which are completely unsuitable and this is taking up valuable time and resources to manage. Many have set up Preferred Supplier Lists (PSLs) as a way to manage the sheer amount of CVs from agencies but we are advising our clients not to go down this route or to move away from PSLs.” 1/2 War for Talent Worsens “Employers must look into new methods of managing their recruitment needs. While 60 per cent of the businesses surveyed said talent management - the strategies and practices needed to define, identify, develop, attract and retain those deemed to have skills valuable to an organisation - is essential to a business's bottom line.
